Personal Impressions
1The shul was a very important part of our lives. My father would take me on all of the holidays. The children would run and play around the men downstairs. They tolerated us with good humor and would occasionally put their index fingers to their mouths so we would be quiet.
During the high holidays the men would be standing in small
groups outside the synagogue but the praying would go on all
day. When they returned to their seats they would ask, Vee
holt men yetst?
